SHAH ALAM – The Culture of Corruption in Malaysia Still at a Dangerous Level, Especially Among Society and the Younger Generation.
Saidatul Syuhada Ahmad Shukri, a social activist, stated that to address the issue of corruption in Malaysia, the government and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) must educate, prevent, and curb this chronic ‘disease.’
“Malaysia will not progress if corruption cases remain active and continue to worsen among the community itself. The culture of corruption can occur anywhere, whether in business, government, or the media, as corrupt practices start from small matters and amounts, eventually becoming serious and severe.
“The media can also play a role in exposing the evils of corruption on television or in newspapers so that society remains aware and avoids such actions,” she said. Further commenting, Saidatul Syuhada mentioned that the website transparency.org, an independent body, conducted a survey on the issue of corruption in Malaysia. According to the site, corruption cases in Malaysia decreased from 53 cases to 51 cases in 2019 and 2020.
